1966 - 2nd Open Day

Magnificent New Centre 10th Dec 1966.

Improving Bacup's image with a magnificent new centre for the Aged, Blind & Disabled in the former Liberl Club. Officially opened on 10th December 1966 by the Mayor, Cllr J Kershaw.

More than 18 months of work and several thousand pounds has gone into the renovation of of this three storey building and the transformation from a shabby and almost dereclict club. There is an office on the ground floor, the side entrance now from Harcourt St with ramps for diabled people. A lift to carry six people to the first and second floor.

Downstairs walls have been knocked down to make a large assembly hall to seat about 130 people. There is also a stage for concert artists. Beautifully tiled ladies and gents toilets are provided on the ground and first floor. The first floor has a handicraft room for use by Inskip Leaguge and the Blind Society with easy chairs and a 23inch TV.
